Why Is Termite Removal Necessary?

Mainly because they can cause so much damage to buildings. Not just on a decorative level, but also on a structural one. Wooden-built homes or ones with wooden beams and floors are particularly vulnerable, especially if they are damp or near groundwater.

Whilst termites aren’t particularly dangerous to humans or animals, they do breed and multiply very quickly and the cost of untreated termites can be substantial.

Termites will:

  • Weaken The Structure
  • Reduce Property Value
  • Ruin the Aesthetics
  • Damage Furniture
  • Can attract other predator pests

Termites will:

Book a termite inspection with ASPC to find out just how serious your termite problem is and exactly what can be done about it. Our termite inspection and report which can be purchased prior to any treatment, utilises moisture meters and thermal imaging to assist in giving an accurate and detailed report on the degree of, or potential for, infestation. The treatment we supply is centred on the Nemesis system which aims to eliminate the whole colony from within. We recommend regular inspections to avoid the heartache of discovering significant termite damage to your home.

Termite Damage

Termites are sometimes referred to as ‘white ants’ because of their appearance - this information may assist in detecting and treating these pests. For real ant problems then please see here.

Termite or 'white ant' infestations

Termite or ‘white ant’ infestations treatment and prevention in homes. Do you have termites in or around your home? Many insects are confused with termites, especially ants. Termites are sometimes referred to as ‘white ants’ because of their pale appearance. You will certainly require pest control services to remove them.

The homeowner can discourage termites by remembering these facts:

  • termites are attracted to wood, so remove potential termite food away from buildings - their food can include timber stacks, old stumps, building refuse, garden decoration such as sleepers and logs
  • waste timber from construction activities is often left in place or stored under the house – remove all timber formwork
  • timber can be treated to prevent termite attack, and some timbers are naturally resistant - use treated or naturally resistant timber when it is in contact with, or close to, soil
  • termites are attracted to water, so fix leaking water pipes, drains, showers, sinks etc, plus capture water from air conditioning units
  • termites prefer humid conditions, so keep air under the house dry by improving sub-floor ventilation, drainage and access
  • termites cannot chew through properly laid concrete, so ensure concrete slab is properly designed, compacted, and cured
  • termite colonies can sometimes be located - it is possible to eliminate colonies by killing the reproductives (the queen and the king).

Regular inspections are the most important part of controlling termites before they do any damage.  Therefore:

  • arrange regular inspections – at least once a year in cooler areas and twice a year in warmer areas
  • inspect during periods of high termite activity - early spring to late summer is generally the best
  • keep the edges of the house (slabs, foundation, piers and stumps) clear of clutter, including garden beds and vegetation
  • professional pest controllers are trained in inspecting houses for termite activity - use their services
  • home owners can inspect houses themselves more frequently than a professional, if they can identify termite activity.

Termite FAQ’s

How do I know if I have termites?

There are many ways to spot termite infestations. Look for the following but if you are unsure, then get a termite inspection report from us:

- Mud Tubes - Visible on the surface around the perimeter of your property as small tubes which the termites travel in
- Power Shorts - Termites are attracted to warm places like electrical fittings, so if you spot a build-up of earthy materials it’s probably termites
- Floor and Ceiling Damage - Blisters, cracks or sags on beams, skirting boards or laminated floors are a sure sign of termites, especially if it sounds hollow
- Flying Insects Outside - If you have swarms of white flying insects during summer, then these are white flying termites and a sign you have colonies close by

There are many other signs like hearing a clicking or knocking in your walls, but to be sure get a termite inspection report from All Star Pest Control and we will advise on the best treatment for your home.

Do I have termites or ants?

It can be hard to tell the difference, but termites are white and translucent and their antennas are straight whereas ants are bent. Termites are also thicker around the waist section whereas ants are narrow. Both species have flying varieties but termite wings are the same size whereas ants’ front wings are larger.

There are no white ants, hence termites get called “white ants”, so anything similar to an ant that’s white is a termite.

What is a termite inspection report?

A termite inspection report is a full survey based upon a licensed pest controller inspecting all areas of your property inside and out to check for signs of termites, what species, where they are, what treatments should be used and prevention measures. This is also often called a timber inspection. Our reports comply with Australian standards and can be used pre-purchase when buying a property.

How much does a termite inspection cost?

Our Termite Inspection Report is currently only $275! This is incredible value for money for a licensed inspection report that meets Australian standards.

How much does a termite treatment cost?

This obviously depends on the nature of the termites and how bad the infestation is. Subterranean termite treatments can range from $300 to $1500 whereas a house-wide termite infestation can be $5000. All this depends on many factors so give us a call for a free quote or get a termite inspection report where we will outline a full plan of options.

Will termites go away on their own?

No. It’s a common misconception that termites will eventually disappear. The reality is that they will only ever do is if they have fully consumed your house! Termites need dark, warm, moist places to live with sweet and sticky foodstuffs available and will slowly eat their way through your timber and plaster causing immense damage over time.
